Akelarre is the Basque name for the moment a coven of witches gets together to practice magic, usually in a forest. My Akelarre, my gathering of a witch’s coven, is represented by five close friends and our “forest” is the neighbourhood of Saint-Gilles, in Brussels. In this project I am exploring the relationship between magic, art and social empathy. I reflect on the changes in society and in relationships due to capitalism, individualism and competitiveness.
It starts with a circle of women, all unique and all bringing in their personal gifts and their needs. Then the magic begins... and in all this, the artist is someone who perceives this magic that constantly surrounds us—who sees it, hears it, or touches it—and tries to communicate it to the rest of the world.
